Built to stand the test of time and become a family heirloom, this home is a true masterpiece.
A simple two-story volume with a gable roof descending to the ground at the rear side but not at the front of the house - was the main idea of Bates Masi & Architects for this 11,450-square-foot villa in East Hampton.
"Wainscott" is a large-scale project that artfully blends architecture, artwork and home furnishings through a fusion of creative ideas in collaboration with David Kleinberg Design Associates.

A family weekend home that unites values of its residents
The couple owning the house had the intent to build an inspiring and invigorating home for themselves, and that would also carry over their signature values and welcome next generation.
Three semi-integrated structures were chosen as the design solution: one for themselves, and two more adjoining but preserving privacy builds designed for their grown children and the next generation young ones.
Together with the ability to host a large family, the main advantage of the chosen location is the enjoyment of looking out over the Atlantic Ocean, thanks to the saltbox design, so that the structures remain protected at the back of the house, but the grand façade, with its taller rooflines, offers stunning unobstructed views through two stories of seemingly frameless windows.
The flush-to-floor Keller minimal windows® freeway sliding rails are artfully integrated into the floor and guarantee smooth, obstacle-free accessibility, due to doorways being threshold-free.
Preserving heritage, shaping the future, designing minimalism
In the low dunes of the Atlantic Ocean, this couple made the dream of a home that would become a family legacy come true.
Three pavilions are arranged in the shape of the letter L, which creates an oasis of privacy and naturally encloses the courtyard and pool. The entire structure and its perpendicular sections joined together maintain a common palette of natural finishes in order to connect thematically with the surrounding landscape.
One of the principles emphasized in this interior, which can be reconciled with minimalism in general, is not only simplicity with reduced design elements, but rather an edgy revolution based on the combination of such simplicity and separate art elements integrated into the design masterfully.
The conviction that pomp and complexity make architectural designs unique seems to be clearly challenged in this exhilarating project by Bates Masi Architects & David Kleinberg Design Associates. They are increasing design freedom and sustainability through the project by bringing more free space and light into every corner. In a place with this by playing with the dynamics of furnishing and décor, which gives the right emotions under the identity of the owners of the property.
The challenge was for the residence to make it breathe calmly, keep clean lines that blend in with the environment, and have the natural and efficient finishes that clients dreamed of.
Designed with natural surroundings in mind, the project truly represents the best of both worlds - outdoor living combined with the luxury of ultimate comfort, thanks to Bates Masi + Architects' authentic living concept. Bates Masi + Architects and David Kleinberg Design Associates aimed to combine aesthetic, function, and efficiency in order to achieve a successful balance between modern architecture, lighting, and design.
The "Groove Tube" designed by Jason Rhoades in 2003, is one of the marvelous finds that builds in the house space a sense of love, authenticity, and, above all, life with all these glorious colors.
Surrounded by high-rise Keller minimal windows® glazing, this art object becomes, as it were, exposed to the art scene of the nature surrounding the building, and in the evening, closed shutters turn this space into an indoor art salon.
