Alpine chalet with that charm

Traditional Alpine chalets are low-lying structures, crouching on the mountainside. The traditional approach to Alpine construction provides ideal protection against snow and cold weather, and also from intense sunshine during the warmer months. Low-lying buildings with protruding roofs, window openings which are pragmatically limited to the minimum required size, and most often built with wood, a ubiquitous construction material found abundantly in Alpine regions.

However, alternative approaches, made possible by contemporary architecture, have opened up a vast range of new options. The latest construction materials, such as reinforced concrete, well-insulated window systems, and state-of-the-art insulation materials, unlock architectural possibilities that seemed unthinkable just a few years ago.

These innovative new options undoubtedly inspired the owner of this incredible home. The villa represents a break with tradition, yet the uncluttered design was not diverted by the multitude of available options. An extraordinary villa with a spectacular view and a distinctive architectural vision, inspired by international travel. Residents can delight in the spectacular Alpine panoramas of Wallis from almost every room in this house. The home is situated at the end of a cul-de-sac, virtually in the front row, facing the mountainside. Another mountain to the North, at the rear of the villa, ensures an almost 360-degree mountain view.  Due to the make-up of the local topography, this view cannot be obstructed.

Frameless minimal windows® sliding windows and doors, developed by Keller, showcase the breath-taking views over the Rhone valley and the surrounding Alpine landscapes. Expansive windows to the east, the south and the west can be partially, or completely, opened, transforming the interior space into an extravagant outdoor haven in the summer months.

300 Days of Sunshine a Year

The slim minimal windows® frames contain both fixed and sliding elements, which are integrated into the walls, ceilings and floors. These are virtually imperceptible, the only visible frame being the one between the fixed and sliding window, with a minimal width of 21 mm. The exterior merges seamlessly with the interior living spaces, with no protruding elements.

The owner and architect were intent on creating a home in a contemporary design, incorporating optimal sustainable energy standards, made possible by state-of-the-art construction techniques and technology. An abundance of glass facades is central to realizing these ambitious goals. The minimal windows® system was easily able to meet all of the demands. The 300 days of sunshine a year, radiating through the generously- proportioned minimal windows®, can be shaded via discreet Venetian blinds, preventing the interior from heating up excessively.

The elegant interior, beautifully decorated in high-quality materials and natural colors, emphasizes the distinctive architecture. The result is a scenic, tranquil space, creating the perfect backdrop for a blissful home life.
